What it costs

Home Affairs lists the first Working Holiday visa at AUD 840, and the second and third visas at AUD 1,000. Visa fees went up on 1 July 2026, so check the current price before you pay.

Money you need

You must have enough money to support yourself and leave Australia. Home Affairs says this is usually about AUD 5,000 plus the cost of your flight out.

Processing time

Home Affairs says it is normalising processing times, and expects most applications to take around three months. Do not book flights until your visa is granted.

Second and third year

Do 3 months (88 days) of specified work, such as farm work in regional Australia, to apply for a second year. Do 6 months of specified work on your second visa to apply for a third. UK passport holders do not need to do specified work for a second or third visa if they apply on or after 1 July 2024. See second and third year requirements.

Working rules

  • You can do any kind of work.
  • You can generally work for up to 6 months with one employer. Some work, such as specified work in certain industries, is allowed for longer with permission.
  • You have the same workplace rights as every other worker. See problems at work.
