Accommodation for Working Holiday Makers

Our partners
Quick answer

Book your first few nights before you land, usually in a hostel. Once you have work, a weekly hostel rate or a room in a share house is cheaper. Many farm, resort and outback jobs include accommodation.

Last checked: 25 October 2026

Your options

  • Hostels: the easiest way to meet people and hear about jobs. See hostels.
  • Working hostels: help guests find farm work. See our working hostels list.
  • Share houses: a room in a shared house, usually weekly rent plus a bond.
  • Live-in jobs: farm, station, resort and au pair jobs often include a room.

Renting safely

  • View the room (or a video call) before paying.
  • Never pay a bond by cash without a receipt. In most states the bond should be lodged with the state bond authority.
