Working Hostels in Australia (2026 List and Map)

Quick answer

A working hostel helps guests find farm work, often with transport to the farms. Pick a state below, or switch to the map, then tap a hostel to see its seasons, how to apply and how to contact them. We checked every hostel in October 2026, but always confirm work is available before you travel.

Last checked: 25 October 2026

Before you book a working hostel

  • Ask if work is available now, and what type of work and hours.
  • Ask the weekly rent, bond and any transport fee, in writing.
  • Check you will be employed directly by the farm or a labour hire company, with payslips and at least the award rate. See pay rates.
  • Never pay a fee just to be put on a waiting list for a job.
  • Check the farm postcode counts for your visa. See regional postcodes.

Frequently asked questions

What is a working hostel?

A hostel that helps guests find work, usually farm and harvest work, and often runs transport to the farms. You pay for your accommodation and are paid by the farm or labour hire company.

Do working hostels guarantee work?

No. Work depends on the season and the weather. Ask what work is available before you travel.

Can a hostel charge me to find a job?

Be very careful of any upfront fee for a job or a waiting list. You should only pay for accommodation and any transport you use.
